Diaper rash
What to do when your child suffers from diaper rash?
Blöjeksem
Many parents report that their children suffer from rashes and eczema when using disposable diapers, and that this improves significantly after switching to cloth diapers! Imagine if this could be a super solution, but unfortunately, babies with cloth diapers can also get a red bottom. However, there is much you can do to prevent it and to solve it when it happens!
Fukten
En del barn (och barnets hud framför allt då) tycker inte om att vara fuktiga. En del barn klarar detta utan problem, men en del reagerar på detta. En lösning på detta kan då vara att lägga till ett torrskikt (läs här om olika torrskikt). Torrskikt finns bland annat i Green Poppys pocket diapersbut also as separate inserts lösa inlägg,if you want to try adding them to your existing diapers.
Fabric
Material Sensitivity. Some children react to different materials. Maybe your child reacts to natural materials close to the skin, such as cotton or wool? Or perhaps the child reacts to synthetic fibers, such as fleece? Try using only natural or synthetic fibers for a period, and be consistent! This way, you can see what the child tolerates.
Tvättrutin
Residual Detergent. When washing cloth diapers, use a slightly smaller amount of detergent than indicated on the packaging. An extra rinse cycle may also be needed to completely remove all detergent. You can check the water in the washing machine at the end of the cycle to see if it foams or not. If it foams, there is still detergent in the diapers, and you need to run an additional rinse.

Not Clean Enough Diapers. Sometimes, diapers need an extra wash to really get rid of all the dirt. Bamboo and hemp inserts are designed to absorb a lot of liquid, and it can be challenging to get them completely clean with a gentle eco-wash. You may also need to increase the number of spins the machine does to really wring out all the dirt from the inserts.
Apply Ointments
If the child gets a red bottom, it's perfectly fine to use your regular cream that you want to use for the child's bottom. However, keep in mind that the ointment can clog the insert if it comes into contact. A tip is to use bamboo liners to help protect the diaper (available here). Alternatively, you can skip this and wash the insert with a little dish soap to dissolve the ointment before washing it as usual in the washing machine.
